The Prospector Blog
Last week’s unveiling at the Prospector Theater was a moment of triumph and transformation. Under the spotlight was a magnificent mosaic, a golden rainbow spectrum crafted entirely from buttons, each piece a glimmer of our collective journey. The artwork, spelling out “Sparkle On!” in vivid hues, is more than a visual delight. It’s a symbol of a journey from darkness to light, especially poignant given the history of Button Sorting.
My name is Munchie and I’d like to make an argument for Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 masterpiece, The Room, as the most important, culturally significant movie of all time.
The Batman is back! Our resident Bat-expert, Greg, will take you on a tour of his Bat favorites.
Prospects have accomplished so much in our short seven years. Imagine what we’ll accomplish in seven more! Looking back, we see how much more meaningful employment the world needs, and who better to take on the task than Prospects?
Prospects sparkle-bombed the Ridgefield Thrift Shop today—their store’s sparkle supply chain is strong! We styled ourselves, with the help of talented and saintly RTS volunteers, as if we were going to the most important party in the galaxy. Because we are. Prospector Opening Night on May 27!
Let the glorious news be spread, Prospector Theater has happy days ahead! Here is a guide to your safe and sparkly return to the glamour of moviegoing on Prospect Street. Prospector Theater’s professional staff (Prospects) have cleaned and scrubbed our Theater, “until it shines like the top of the Chrysler Building!”
“One thing that makes me really happy about the Prospector Theater is that people are working there, learning how to work, doing real jobs.” - Dr. Temple Grandin
I have made the decision to temporarily close our doors, starting on Monday, April 5, 2021. COVID cases are on the rise again and Ridgefield has seen a spike in cases. The Prospector Theater has taken the extraordinary step to choose safety now, with the promise of sparklier tomorrows.
Special Olympics warms my heart. “Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” Their motto, I borrow for life.
One year ago. Our screens went dark. Speakers fell silent. Calendars dated with question marks. Popcorn stopped popping. Guests went home. Prospects clocked out. And our doors closed.
This is a happy story. A story of a wrong made right. This is the story of Hope. A school, a job, a jab. And hope for a better tomorrow.
Prospects orchestrated our first ever Prospector International Film Festival right here in Ridgefield, CT! We had submissions from over 130 countries and screened 59 films over four days, both in-person and virtually. Thanks to the Film Festival and the hard work from Prospects, we were able to have our sparkle shine on screens in the UK, France, and even Korea.
We are The Prospector Theater.
Through the darkest days
And no movies to show
Prospect Street was quiet
No smell of popcorn in the air
The projectors stood hungry and unfed
Quiet on Prospect Street.
Vader! Luke! Leia! The lightsabers! The flashes! The CGI wonders on the big screen! Millions of people will “skywalk” to theaters for Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, opening December 19th. This week Disney sent a warning to movie theater operators that some lighting effects, intended to dazzle some moviegoers, can trigger seizures among people who have photosensitive epilepsy.
In the unlikeliest of unlikelies, I became a level 40 PokémonGo Trainer when I was 41 years old. My Pokémon were feared on top of the gyms. Wanna go? You better have at least six friends with you, and a backpack full of Pokéballs. You on Team Valor? Jump on underneath me, I’ll protect you. And when we get knocked down, I’ll return for justice.
Every day at the Prospector, Prospects work hard
To welcome thousands of moviegoers from near and far
We truly love our jobs, for reasons you might not know…
Of his first night in uniform in the Reds dugout, the Cincinnati Enquirer wrote: “Ted joined the Reds for a day, but changed the team forever.” His mother thought he was only there for a meet and greet, and had no idea the team would welcome him so warmly, giving him the ability to pump up the energy and spirit of the entire Reds line up and management.
It’s the mid-90s and I’m home from college, standing in Hope’s room. I wouldn’t know for another decade the similarities between her room and those of my other friends with Down syndrome: impeccably neat, bed made with extra pillows and stuffed animals. Our two other sisters and I went away to school, and Hope and her room sadly stood the same in time.
“I am happy Mattel is releasing a new Barbie with physical disabilities in the Fall of 2019 and hope she will have many opportunities within the Barbie world. I hope she will have access to Barbie vehicles, Barbie education, Barbie campers, and Barbie careers. The new Barbie will be a “Fashionista,” but maybe the original Becky Doll can teach her some digital photography techniques, or Barbie Computer Engineer can help her learn to code because she can and should be more than a token or a fashion icon!” -Valerie Jensen, Founder and Visionary of The Prospector Theater
The music touched me. REALLY! It touched me. I tested out a SoundShirt by the tech/fashion designers at CuteCircuit at the World Economic Forum.
